An exhibition of Chinese zodiac statues is to be unveiled at the century-old Shanghai Dashijie (also known as the Great World Amusement Center) in September.

According to the China Foundation for Chinese Zodiac Culture Preservation, “The Legacy of Culture Treasures: King of Intangible Cultural Heritage—Chinese Zodiac Exhibition” is scheduled to be held at the Shanghai Dashijie on September 9, featuring a full set of 12 bronze Chinese zodiac statues crafted between 1840 and 1928. With an average height of 1.8 meters, they are made from pure bronze and have an animal’s head on a human body.

The precious statues were donated by some British-born Chinese to the China Foundation for Chinese Zodiac Culture Preservation. Since they were sent back to China in 2012, great efforts have been put in their preservation and renovation.

The antique statues have been displayed in several Chinese cities including Beijing and Chengde during the past years. In September, they will make a debut in Shanghai for public view.
