The school lab houses dozens of fish tanks.
Students in a middle school in Shanghai’s Songjiang District can see fish of various kinds without going to an aquarium outside their school, as there are already 20 fish tanks in their school lab.
Equipped with standard lighting, filtering units and pumps for water circulation, the fish tanks house a variety of fish including pirarucus, alligator gars and much more, making the lab a mini-aquarium.
Students go to the lab every day to take care of the fish.
Every day after school, students of the aquatic life science club goes to the lab and take care of the fish in the tanks. Apart from feeding the fish and changing the water in the tanks, they also record the fish’s growth. The colorful and lovely aquatic creatures have also attracted students from other clubs, who engage themselves in the management of the fish tanks in their spare time after class.
The science club is organized by Wu Jian, a Chinese teacher in the school. He used to keep some tropical fish in his own office. After finding that many of his students got interested in the fish, he came up with the idea of setting up a science club. The club meets twice a week, so that Wu Jian can teach his students knowledge about aquatic creatures and their origins, habits and habitats.
