After “The Bell Tolls for A Dynasty,” the first Kunqu opera film in native 3D, won prizes at the Canada Golden Maple Film Festival (CGMFF) for Best Opera Film and Best Opera Director, a 3D Peking Opera film “In Pursuit of the General” was honored the Best Director Award at the 2nd Canada China International Film Festival (CCIFF) held in Montreal, Canada.

Based on the script created and acted by the late Peking opera master Zhou Xinfang, the 3D version of “In Pursuit of the General” is a star-studded adaption from the original, with the leading role acted by Chen Shaoyun, a well-known Peking opera actor from the Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre.

“In Pursuit of the General” tells the story of Han Xin, a capable general during the Chu-Han Contention, who was advised by Xiao He to serve Liu Bang, the first emperor of the Han Dynasty. Thanks to the new cinematic technology used in the 3D adaption, the ancient story has got its glamour back.

Aside from “In Pursuit of the General,” other Peking opera films were also widely acclaimed at CCIFF.
