Where do you work out? Do you go to a conventional gym or a fitness court in your neighborhood? Now you have a third option: You can sweat it out in a low-cost shared fitness room.

These days, people in Xuhui, Minhang and Pudong New Area spot some orange booths in their residential community, and to their surprise, the boxes are shared gyms which are open 24 hours.

After downloading and registering on a related mobile app, users can make a reservation to use the gym. After that, they can access the booth by scanning a QR code on its exterior. The mini-gym charges only 10 yuan per hour and receives cashless payment. Each room offers treadmills, dumbbells and other fitness facilities to workout fanatics.

So far, 32 shared gyms have been placed in nearly 2,000 residential communities across Shanghai, and 1,000 more will be placed in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in the six months to come.
