Marintec China 2017 was kicked off in Shanghai New International Expo Centre on December 5, lasting for 4 days. It shows China's latest achievements in maritime and shipbuilding, including world's first smart ship, world's largest ore ship which is being built and the design & construction planning of China's luxury cruise.

The 38,800-ton smart ship, named “iDolphin” and handed over, no doubt highlighted the exhibition, which was self-developed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation based on the big data and Internet of Things technologies. It is also the first ship to gain the smart boat logos of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping and China Classification Society.

Ship intelligence refers to monitoring, evaluating and analyzing the overall performance and status of the ship by means of information technologies and big data so as to provide optimized solutions for navigational control and route selection. The global smart ship research has come to real ship test by far.

In addition, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company, jointly with other companies, has been carrying out the design and related services of the luxury cruise. Tao Yingjie, the chief engineer of the company said,“It is expected that we will start the construction of the luxury cruise in 2018, trail sailing in 2021 and deliver it in 2023.” The cruise may adopt some Chinese elements, he added.
