A young photographer named Zhou Yang finally completed her crowdfunding for a photo album for her grandma, an Alzheimer’s patient.

Several years ago, a Chinese TV series titled “Golden Marriage” moved many people’s heart. Taking that as an inspiration, Zhou Yang decided to focus her camera on her grandparents. Starting from 2010, she has been taking photos of the old couple.

However, one year later, things became different, as Zhou’s beloved grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. “As her family, we can do nothing but see her gradually retreat to an unknown corner, lose her memory and her ability to live a normal life,” said Zhou. Since then, she began to use her camera to record her grandma’s everyday life.

In August 2013, Zhou’s grandma passed away and Zhou began to sort up the photos she had taken during the previous three years. In late September 2017, Zhou started a crowdfunding online. She wanted the photos to be published so that more people will be aware of Alzheimer’s disease. She said, “Like depression, mental disorders and other diseases that are always misunderstood and discriminated against, Alzheimer’s also deserves understanding.”

The crowdfunding was very successful and it gained support from around 500 warm-hearted netizens, many of whom have had similar experiences as Zhou. The photo album will serve as a special way for Zhou to remember her grandma.
