Franz Welser-Möst

Shanghai Grand Theatre New Year’s Concert will be held on December 30-31. It will be presented by the orchestra and chorusof Shanghai Opera House and conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, a master in today's classical music.

Möst serves as the music director of the Cleveland Orchestra, dubbed “one of the top five American orchestras”. He was the music director of Wiener Staatsoper during 2010-2014 and has twice directed Vienna New Year’s Concert. It will be the first time that Möst has come to China, and the fans are looking forward to his first show in China.

We can see the German-style rigor and the Austrian resplendence and gentleness in Möst's conducting. On December 30, Möst will bring seven easy, bright and colorful Strauss family tracks he selected including waltz, march, operetta, polka, fully embodying the tradition of the New Year's concert in the capital of music, Vienna. And he selected Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 for the day after.

The concert will kick off Shanghai Opera House’s performance season in 2018.
