A lane museum which recalls memories of old Shanghai is open to the public.
Covering an area of about 120 square meters, the new museum is situated in Xiwang Residential Area on Shimen Number Two Road, Jing’an District. Built in 1911 in a British style, the buildings in the area were recognized as heritage architecture by Shanghai’s municipal people’s government in 1999.

Thanks to a renovation project, a number of precious historical materials about the past of the area were discovered and brought to life again. Thus, the idea of setting up a lane museum was born.
In the exhibition hall of the museum, people are able to cherish the memories of old Shanghai and see what life was like in the past. In the glass cabinet, they can see out-of-print comic strips, plates bearing the brand names of old bicycles produced from the early post-liberation period of China to the 1990s, and many old articles for daily use, like the blades of electric fans.
