Shanghai Pudong Football Stadium, the new arena for Shanghai SIPG Football Club (SIPG FC), is to be completed in 2019, said HPP Architects, the architectural firm behind the new stadium.

Looking like a white porcelain bowl from the outside, the stadium with 39,661 seats will be a class-A professional football stadium which can host different FIFA competitions. By then, Shanghai will have two professional football stadiums, besides the Hongkou Football Stadium.

According to HPP Architects, the design is inspired by traditional Chinese porcelain. The surface will be made from white metal to represent the crystal feature of white porcelain, while the stadium will resemble a delicate container.

To offer spectators a better view, the distance between the bleachers and the football field is designed to be only 10 meters.

As for the supporting facilities, there will be a function room for football teams, an activity room and canteen for football fans, as well as a small football museum to promote the football culture to guests.

“We hope the Pudong stadium can not only serve as a main arena for Shanghai SIPG FC, but also become a landmark for Shanghai citizens to take part in sports activities and experience the football culture,” said HPP Architects.
