On Monday, March 26, more than 400 shooters competed with each other in the 2018 CSCC Slingshot Club Championship Shanghai competition in Jiading. This match is also the Slingshot World Cup qualification.

In the competition, which consists of a preliminary, a qualifying and a final round, males and females compete on the same field. The ten finalists, including two females, were enabled to take part in the Slingshot World Cup in Italy this June.

It is reported that the contestants basically have practiced slingshot for 3 or 5 years, even for more than 8 years."Why are so many people love slingshot and get obsessed with the sport? Because it is about some kind of feeling," said a contestant surnamed Yuan from Hangzhou, a city in Zhejiang Province. A few years ago, Yuan came across an ad while surfing the Internet and became interested in the slingshot, which used to be his childhood favorite, so he told his friends that he got a new hobby. Afterward, he joined a local slingshot club to practice shooting. Thanks to his hard work, he won first prize in a single match last year.

As the slingshot game becomes a competitive sport, many provinces and municipalities in China, like Sichuan, Anhui, Chongqing and Changsha, host slingshot competitions on a regular basis. Though it has a humble beginning, the sport can be as beneficial to health as archery and shooting.
