Zhujiajiao to adopt one-way visitor flow control for Qingming as Qingpu expects over a million spring outing and tomb-sweeping visitors

As the Qingming Festival approaches, cemeteries like Fu Shou Yuan and Zhi Zun Yuan in Qingpu district are expected to receive over 200,000 visitors. Moreover, with the launch of metro Line 17, more and more spring outing and tomb-sweeping visitors are expected to visit Qingpu and the total number of visitors may exceed a million. Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, which has the highest concentration of tourists, has adopted one-way visitor flow control and an emergency response coordination team has been established to address sudden and high visitor volume.

According to the high visitor flow emergency response plan, if the instant visitor volume reaches 14,000 and the total visitor volume reaches 30,000, the scenic areas will divert and even restrict the flow of visitors. If the visitation number hits 40,000, the entire scenic area will be closed and only outbound flow will be allowed.

According to the deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, many visitors will arrive in the old water town to have lunch after tomb sweeping, roughly between ten am and two pm. This period of time will see a short peak of visitor volume.

To ensure safety, the scenic area of the old town fully adopted one-way visitor flow control from March 31. This means visitors on the old street cannot move freely but must move in a single direction, so as to avoid counter pedestrian flow. This control method had only been partially adopted in the past.

According to Tao Huajun, Captain of the Comprehensive Social Order Maintenance team of Zhujiajiao Town, tourists entering through Gate One are only allowed to move in one way on both sides before converging into one flow at the bridge. This restriction will negatively affect the travel experience and it is therefore recommended that visitors avoid this peak travel period if they possibly can. Staying overnight at the town is suggested if visitors want to fully enjoy their visit to the historic and picturesque old town.

More than two hundred security guards have been deployed within the scenic area during this peak period, five times as many as usual. The four road intersections leading to the core scenic area will be closed and the traffic police will channel the traffic through.
