Six music festivals hitting Shanghai in April

Amid good weather and moderate temperatures, six music festivals will hit Shanghai in April. These festivals -including the world-renowned EDC CHINA, the Strawberry Music Festival, and the long-established Shanghai Spring International Music Festival -will be a good alternative to your usual weekend activities. Here are the highlights and location and time information for these festivals.

Daydream Festival China

Dates: April 14 to May 15

Location: Shanghai International Music Village (No 188, Lane 399, East Shendi Road)

Ticket price: 580RMB for Single Day ticket; 1080RMB for Two-Day ticket

Positioned as a comprehensive musical festival, Daydream Festival China will for the first time use three dream-like stages, hosting three different kinds of music. The festival will feature 54 international stars, with various music styles from pop  to electronic music.

To illustrate the “Dream With Your Eyes Open”concept, the festival team will present world-class stunning and surreal lighting as well as its signature theatrical staging effects, aiming to give everyone a fantastic daydream experience.

The 35th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival

Dates: 28 April to May 18

Location: to be determined

Ticket price: to be determined 

As the longest-running music festival in China, the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival is the emblem of Shanghai’s music and dancing culture. The festival originated in 1959 as the “Shanghai music dance exhibition month”, and was formally run under the name of Shanghai Spring in May of 1960.

During the three-week festival, a variety of concerts will be heard in Shanghai, including Stephen Beus’s Piano Solo Concert and the Charles Richard Hamelin Piano Recital Concert.

A Chinese folk music orchestra featuring traditional flute instruments will also be performed. Moreover, famous Japanese director Shunji Iwai will perform with his band at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. All these performances will provide a musical and dancing feast for the audience in Shanghai.

 

2018 Super Strawberry Music Festival

Dates: April 29 to May 1

Location: Shanghai Rugby Football Club (2700 ZhangyangBei Road,near Wuzhou Avenue Station of Metro Line 6)

Ticket price: 820RMB for Advance Three-Day Pass; 350RMB for Advance Single  Day ticket; 600RMB for Pro Advance Single Day ticket; 280RMB for Advance Student Single Day ticket; 420RMB for Single Day ticket(at the door)

This year marks the seventh anniversary of the Shanghai Strawberry Music Festival. A lot of Chinese and foreign music stars will be present at this year’s event, including Wed Camp, The Mystery lights and Dou JingTong.

 

2018 EDC CHINA

Dates: April 29 to April 30

Location: Shanghai International Music Village (No 188, Lane 399, East Shendi Road)

Ticket price: 880RMB for Early Bird Two-day ticket; 1680RMB for Two-Day ticket

EDC, short for Electric Daisy Carnival, is one of the largest music festivals in the world and literally an all-night electronic music party, where roaring music and a laser & smoke show will make it hard to discern between day and night. The 2018 EDC CHINA will be divided into three stages: EDM, Underground, and  Bass.

The lineup includes such stars as NGHTMRE, Andy C, Snails, Ghastly, Barely Alive, and Dubstep/Trap. The festival is sure to bring an electrifying musical feast to its fans.

Shanghai Dishui Lake Sun Music Festival

Dates: April 29 to April 30

Location: Dishui Lake West Island

Ticket price: 378RMB for Advance Single Day ticket; 698 RMB for Two-Day ticket

During the long Labor Day weekend, the Shanghai Dishui Lake Sun Music Festival will be held in the Dishui Lake West Island. The festival will be headlined by such singers as David Tao, Hua Chengyu, Yoga Lin, Mao Buyi, Huanglin and Mr. Miss. The styles of music will cover rock and roll, folk music, Jazz, electronic music, and pop music; aiming to meet the diverse needs of music fans.

2018 Jing'an Jazz Spring Music Festival

Dates: April 30 to May 2

Location: Jing'an Park

Ticket price: 80/180/280/380/480RMB

For two days and three nights, musicians and artists from more than 20 countries will present a carnival of music, dance and art. All outdoor performances will be free of charge. Jing'an Jazz Spring Music Festival has never been short of the glamour of top maestros.This year, among the big stars featuring will be: New York Voices, a Grammy award-winning vocal group from America; Mike Steren, a Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist; and Dave Weckl, one of the best drummers of all time.
