4 bridges over Huangpu River to be renovated

Yangpu Bridge

With 45 kilometres of walkway having been opened along the Huangpu River in Shanghai, the Huangpu riverfront has become an important recreational public space for citizens. According to the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau, four bridges along the Huangpu River will undergo a large-scale renovation over the next three months to celebrate the National Holiday and usher in the China International Import Expo.

Nanpu Bridge

The four bridges, Yangpu, Nanpu, Lupu and Xupu, were constructed between the 1990s and early 2000s. Despite routine servicing and maintenance, the lighting systems of the bridges need an upgrade to fix such issues as inconsistent lighting brightness and obvious color distortion. The upgrade project aims to improve the city’s nighttime landscape and create a safe, beautiful and comfortable public space for citizens and tourists.

Lupu Bridge

This improvement project will cover the bridges’ main towers, stay cables, both sides of the bridges, as well as the main arch of the Lupu Bridge, where a new or upgraded illumination system with improved lighting equipment, power supply and control systems will be put in place. The new lighting design will fit in with the surrounding landscapes of each bridge. There will be four controlling modes (regular daytime, festivals, significant activities and deep night), each with specific requirements for lighting hours and brightness to conserve energy.

The whole landscape improvement project is expected to be completed by the end of September to give the bridges a brand-new and shiny look during the National Holiday.
