Yangtze River Delta Summit urges improved data sharing

SHANGHAI - The Yangtze River Delta Summit was held in Shanghai this Tuesday, July 17, gathering more than 2,000 participants from scientific and technological companies. It was hosted by the big-data allies from Shanghai, Jiangsu province, Zhejiang province and Anhui province that are all located in the Yangtze River Delta of eastern China.

Zhang Ying, general engineer of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, hoped that the Yangtze River Delta would be a hub of the global digital economy.

Wu Bin, deputy district mayor of Minhang District of Shanghai, demonstrated that Minhang has witnessed many talents and technological enterprises situate themselves in Shanghai.

Chen Weili, member of the Management Committee of Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District, expected that the chains of industry would be much stronger with the data flowing across the Yangtze River Delta.

During the process of data sharing and data development, extra attention to the coming risks needs to be paid. He Jifeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at East China Normal University, suggested that enterprise should take both the current necessity and the economic cost into consideration.

The summit consisted of one major conference and three parallel forums related to data sharing and intelligence cooperation . The latter was divided into three topics – intelligent and connected vehicles (ICV), smart city, and new retail plus data intelligence.

Two competitions, named SODA (Shanghai Open Data Apps) and BOT (Brain of Things), were also launched at the opening ceremony. They are global activities for the development of data apps and innovative applications, aiming to enhance technological innovation across the Yangtze River Delta.

The event took place under the guidance of the Office of Regional Cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta, and the Municipal Commissions of Economy and Informatization of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces; as well as the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Science and Technology, the Management Committee of Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District, and the People’s Government of Minhang District, Shanghai.
