The 2018 Shanghai Design Week will be held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from August 31 through September 2. The theme this year is “Create community for design dreams and Redesign”, which intends to change people’s consumption habits and fashion awareness through changes in lifestyle, as well as promote business innovation and industrial upgrade through redesigning business models.

This annual event will occupy an exhibition area of 25,000 square meters, which is the largest scale in history. More than 200 international brands and 10,000 new products will be shown during the week. Nearly 100 designers, artists and key opinion leaders will attend the event.

The 2018 Shanghai Design Week consists of four parts, namely, Home Innovative Life Design Experience Exhibition, Cross-border Forum, Series Activities and Design 365.

“Arbitrary Door”, the name given to the entrance of the event, is the key element during this design week, symbolizing “entering” the gate and into the “design city”. According to Designer Wang Pingzhong, this giant pyramid is an installation art which integrates food, clothing, housing and transportation.

The event will be broadcast through both the Window of the Bund, a landmark outdoor media screen, and Douyu, a very popular live broadcast platform. Nearly 100 innovative design activities will also be held in cooperation with commercial spaces, office buildings, industrial parks, schools and communities before and after the design week.
