Trendy dishes to be served at CIIE robot canteen

A Hema Fresh chain store began trial operation last week in the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), the host venue for the upcoming China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

Covering an area of over 3,000 square meters, the two-storied store is divided into two parts: the downstairs is a supermarket, while the upstairs is a canteen where robots are used to deliver the dishes straight to the tables.

Good news for seafood lovers. Trendy dishes such as hairy crabs and swimming crabs will be served at the robot canteen, where there are 17 processing methods for customers to choose from.

As there will be a large number of visitors to the CIIE venue, the canteen can provide a comfortable dining environment, according to the management of the canteen. What’s more, fast food dishes are also available for people who are in a rush.

To guarantee food safety, all the dishes and cooking processes are traceable thanks to RFID technology.

After finishing their meals, customers can click a button on their table, and a robot will approach with empty plates to gather the leftovers.

The canteen will be officially opened on Nov. 5, the first day of the import expo.
