To ensure the successful opening of the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) on November 5, the Shanghai city government has allocated November 4th to 6th as holidays. Travel agencies have thusly launched several travel route packages for Shanghai workers and potential guests who come to Shanghai for the expo.

Actually, during the National Day holidays, some Shanghai travel agencies already trialed such travel routes which include popular destinations like the ancient water towns in the Yangtze River Delta and revolutionary sites. The trial runs were a great success.

According to springtour.com, a Chinese online tourism service provider, it has already implemented 120 travel routes, mainly for 3-6 days tour in the Asia Pacific region and the surrounding areas of Shanghai.

Data from Ctrip, another online travel agency shows that during the three days after the announcement of the holiday, the number of visitors booking hotels around Shanghai for the expo week increased by nearly 50% compared with the previous three days. The number of guests making a reservation for hotels in Suzhou and Hangzhou grew the most, seeing a 62% and 55% increase respectively.
