Robot speeds up construction time for CIIE
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-11-01 15:06

More and more robots are being used in the construction field, replacing traditional manual operations. A construction robot has been deployed for the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, the host venue of the upcoming import expo.

The main venue is capable of holding more than 2,000 people. The ceiling is composed of 13-meter-long composite aluminum panels. These large decorative panels can provide a spacious and smooth visual effect, but for construction workers, their installation is time-consuming and labor-intensive.

After a brainstorming session of the construction team, they decided to modify an industrial truck that was once deployed in the military to move large equipment in a small space.

After some modifications, the truck was finally turned into an assembly robot. An “arm” which can lift things up to 4.5 meters in height and rotate through360 degrees is installed at the front of the truck. At the front end of the “arm,” a “claw” is mounted, which can hold the aluminum panels weighing as much as 1,600 kilograms.

At the 2018 Green Construction Conference on the Engineering Construction Industry, which kicked off on October 30, a robot plasterer was unveiled. It can replace traditional manual labor and work nonstop 24 hours a day. The workload of each robot is equal to five skilled workers.

With the rapid development of the Internet and intelligent manufacturing, intelligent and green construction will guide the direction of the construction industry. In Shanghai, some major projects, including the National Exhibition and Conference Center, have been completed with the help of intelligent robots.
