Japanese craftsmanship and innovation to drive Chinese industrial upgrading
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-11-09 17:02

Japanese exhibitors are shining at the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Statistics show that Japan has sent the largest number of exhibitors to participate, including famous enterprises like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Panasonic and ITOCHU.

Although the booths of some small and medium-sized Japanese enterprises are simple, the products are exquisitely designed, earning the attendees’ graces.

According to Zhao Ping, a researcher at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Japanese businesses set good examples for Chinese ones. Zhao believes that amid the trend of consumption upgrading, people's demand for high-quality goods and services is increasing, but domestic supply capacity cannot meet demand in the short term. Therefore, China must actively expand imports.

On the other hand, due to the supply shortage of innovative products and the incomplete stimulation of China’s consumption potential, although the growth rate of retail sales of China's domestic consumer goods has been steady in recent years, it has been somewhat down from the previous years. The overseas brands at the Expo could stimulate local companies to reform those negative factors on the supply side, which is conducive to the development of Chinese brands.
