When thinking of Pudong, usually the three skyscrapers on the banks of the Huangpu Riverand the Lujiazui skyline they have formed are what comes to people’s minds. Actually, the land is also bearing a cultural context that has lasted for hundreds of years.

According to Liu Xiaoqing, former vice chairman of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, lots of painters and calligraphers were born in Pudong in the era of the Republic of China, among whom many were art educators.

Besides, Pudong, of all the Shanghai districts, has the largest number of intangible cultural heritages and is a place where Shanghai culture is blended with revolutionary and western culture.

Regarding the government’s union with social organizations to jointly build a cultural inheritance pattern, Zhang Jun, a Kunqu opera artist who has been awarded theArtistforPeacebyUNESCO, said that the Pudong government has a big role to play and is likely to set a benchmark in creating a sound development environment for private theaters.

In the future, the federation will make strenuous efforts in several aspects including creating a platform for gathering literary and art talents, producing masterpieces reflecting the reform and development of the new era and supporting more young artists and local cultural projects to be brought to China and the world.
