Resumption of work underway in Delta eco-demonstration zone

More than 96% of enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone have resumed work.

At a press conference on Feb. 27, Zhang Zhongwei, deputy director of the executive committee of the demo zone, said that among the 3,225 above-scale industrial enterprises, 3,099 had resumed work as of Feb. 26.

The zone, located at the junction between Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu, is part of the national strategy of realizing the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

Preparation for the Shanghai-Jiangsu-Huzhou high-speed railway running through the demonstration zone is also stepping up, aiming to start construction in the first half of the year.

While attempting to help companies restart work smoothly, the local authorities also have to solve problems in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chains.

The industrial chains are sometimes cross-industry, cross-regional and even cross-border. For instance, in order to restart production, an enterprise specializing in hand sanitizers in Shanghai’s Jiading District had to coordinate with 11 upstream suppliers, which are located in Taicang (in Jiangsu), Qingpu (in Shanghai), Jiashan (in Zhejiang), Changsha (in Hunan), and Zhongshan (in Guangdong).

While ensuring sound prevention and control of the epidemic, the cross-region flow of productive factors need to be solved in an effective way, so as to elevate the integrated governance of the Delta region, said Zhang.
