Creative mask idea for unlocking smartphones
By:Wu Qiong   |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2020-03-04 17:03

Face masks have become a must when going out, because of the epidemic. At the same time, wearing a mask can also cause much inconvenience. One of its down sides is that it prevents unlocking smartphones using Face ID.

To solve this problem, a visual artist named Danielle Baskin in the US has devised a creative mask.

“Made this service that prints your face on an N95 mask, so you can protect people from viral epidemics while still being able to unlock your phone,” said Baskin on Twitter.

It is claimed that her mask can work with facial recognition software. “Our masks are custom printed with your face, making phone access easy during viral epidemics.”

The mask is priced at 40 USD for each piece, but the designer also admitted that the success rate of unlocking a smartphone is still not 100% yet, and needs a lot of testing and verification.

However, people had mixed responses to Baskin’s idea. Some love it, while others worry that the process of making your custom mask may leak your personal information too. The photo of your face might be misused by others.

But Baskin said the mask will not be produced while there’s still a worldwide mask shortage.

Anyway, the idea is creative.
