Epidemic prevention measures should be applied at borders
By:Wu Qiong   |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2020-03-13 15:57

As the number of new daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 has slowed to a halt, the results of Shanghai’s epidemic prevention and control has been shown. But is the city now under greater threat from the overseas’ epidemic? Obsessing over worry is not suggested, said a medical expert.

At the end of the day, prevention and control is the absolute principle, said Wu Fan, deputy president of the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. Facing the rapid transmission of the coronavirus in foreign countries and regions, Shanghai, as a major port city with its openness to the outside world, is under great risk of imported cases. But she believes that people should not be too worried about that.

Over the past ten days or so, the number of new confirmed cases detected in Shanghai has remained at low levels, a signal of the city’s progress in containing the epidemic.

Now we should apply the effective measures to epidemic prevention at borders, said Wu. For instance, inbound passengers from epidemic-stricken countries and regions should undergo a 14-day self-quarantine. People from other countries and regions should register their entry information for a seamless transfer of health management between Shanghai and their destination.
