The coming “golden week” is expected to be greeted with the first travel peak in China this year, according to several travel agencies and online travel firms.

In 2020, China’s National Day coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival, leading to an eight-day break that goes from Oct 1 to Oct 8 (but not, of course, without makeup days). If employees take another three days off, they will get an 11-day holiday, or with six extra days off a 16-day holiday. This will be a great opportunity for long-distance travel in the tourist market.

Starting from September 2, train tickets for the National Day holiday have been officially on sale. Data from China’s travel search engine Qunar.com, shows that tickets for Shanghai-Harbin, Shanghai-Wuhan and other long distance trains departing on September 30 and October 1 were already sold out on September 2. As a result, flights departing on October 1 for popular routes, such as Shanghai-Harbin, are only left with economy class tickets with a full price.

As the epidemic is largely under control in China and with the rapid recovery of normal life, confidence in travel and consumption has been boosted. Holding a green health code, people can travel freely but in an orderly manner in low-risk areas. Since the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has allowed cross-province, city and district group tourism to resume, China has seen an obvious recovery of the tourist industry.

Taking advantage of the upcoming eight-day holiday, people’s tourist demands are expected to explode, leading to a golden week of consumption.

However, the holiday might not be something for college students to look forward to, as many are suggested to stay on campus over the eight days.
