An exhibition centering on the Communist Party of China’s financial history in Shanghai was unveiled on June 28.

From the labor movement to financial battles, it showcases around 200 archive documents, photos and videos, recounting the majestic journey of the CPC leading the people in fighting for the independence of the Chinese nation, the people’s liberation and the country’s growth and development since the 1920s.

Stretching from the founding of the CPC to the takeover of old financial institutions and the establishment of the Renminbi’s status in the country’s financial market, the exhibition displays the main figures, activities and events in the CPC’s financial history in Shanghai, including the China Mutual Trading Company, the Chien Yeh Bank, the Tinkle Bank, and Da’an Insurance.

Visitors can better understand the history with the help of a host of precious historical materials, including a 1.44-meter-long group photo of the Shanghai Gold and Silver Industry Workers’ Club taken on September 16, 1922 (a national treasure-class cultural relic); a video clip of Zhang Renya leading a labor movement in 1925; and a letter written by Zhang telling of his revolutionary history in his early years as well as the reason behind him joining the CPC. An article recalling Mao Zemin (younger brother of Mao Zedong) transferring the donations of the Communist International from Shanghai to Xi’an during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is also included.

Stories of thirteen heroes and revolutionaries devoted to the people’s liberation are also on display. Audiences can scan the QR codes on the wall to read more details.

The exhibition will last until August 28 in the exhibition hall of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee. Online reservations are available.
