Excellent CPC members inspired by Party summit
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-07-07 18:42

The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the World Political Parties Summit was held Tuesday via video link. Themed "For the People's Wellbeing: the Responsibility of Political Parties", the summit invited more than 500 leaders of political parties and political organizations from 160-plus countries, and over 10,000 party representatives to attend.

In the Shanghai parallel session, CPC member representatives watched the live-streamed event. Xu Lihua, secretary of the Party Branch of Baoxing Residential District in the Bund Sub-district of Shanghai’s Huangpu District, was among the audience. She has been highly praised for her devotion to community work, especially the relocation and reconstruction of the old Baoxing Alley community when the city started its old community retrofitting work. For her,“for the people’s wellbeing” has been her life’s mission.

The Baoxing Alley which she has been managing was the first in Shanghai to form a Residents’ Welfare Committee, the predecessor of its current Residents’ Committee, which served considerately for the residents. Within just 172 days, all of the residents willingly moved out of the old alley, setting a record in the history of the city’s old community retrofit.

In June 2020, the last resident moved out. But the work of Xu and her colleagues is far from over.“We explored how to better serve those whose Hukou and residence are separate,” Xu said.“Many residents had lived their whole life in the alley and have a deep love for the place. No matter where they have moved, we as CPC members will serve them with sincerity.”

For Wu Eryu, another CPC member, being needed by the Party is a happiness. 26 years ago, when Shanghai was transforming the economy and restructuring the textile system, Wu volunteered to leave since one person among the five people in her office had to be laid off. She was then admitted by Shanghai Airlines as a stewardess. Since then, she has been serving on the plane and was rated as a national model worker.

On July 1, 2018, Wu turned 55 and followed the retirement procedures from Shanghai Airlines. However, she was re-employed on the same day as a cabin service expert to continue to contribute to the cause of civil aviation.

Wu was born on July 1, the birthday of the Party. She comes from a family with 8 CPC members.“My grandpa has 8 children, who are all CPC members. They went to Harbin, Lanzhou and Tibet to dedicate their youth to the construction of the motherland. Compared with them, I feel that I still have a gap,” said Wu.
