In the face of many social issues such as frequent natural disasters caused by climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic,"contributing to a sustainable society" has become a global trend and attracted more and more attention. Since the establishment in 1879, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. committed to addressing social issues of different times, and added Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aims to solving social issues as the main goal of its overall strategy in recent years. Sustainability was the company’s theme when Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. participated in last year’s CIIE as the first time. What will the company present this year and what will be the highlights of its presence in this year’s CIIE? A reporter from Eastday.com interviewed Keiko Fujita, executive officer of Tokio Marine&Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. and executive director / president of Tokio Marine&Nichido Fire Insurance Company (China)Limited.
The mission of being with the customer and protecting them all the time, while committing to resolving social issues in different times
In the nearly 30 years since entering Chinese market, the company committed to resolving social issues in different times. Therefore, the company’s theme of this year’s CIIE is "protecting customers and local communities in their times of need", and providing insurance services to solving social issues. The company continued to developing for a long term by keeping pace with the ever-changing social issues.
According to Keiko Fujita, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. set up the "Sustainable Development committee" in April 2021 and participated in last year’s CIIE as the first time with the theme of "sustainable development". From this year, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. has also clearly incorporated SDGs into company's business strategy, combined with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, closely following China's national strategy. The company has identified (the following) four priority areas to solve social issues, which will be presented clearly in this year's CIIE.
First, green transformation. Under the background of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals", the company developed and offered "customized" insurance solutions for the new risks and topics faced by customers in promoting green transformation.
Second, the company will contribute to the Healthy China Initiative, and establish the Health Promotion Industry Alliance with Chinese and Japanese enterprises to provide various services.
Third, loss prevention and mitigation services. The company will actively adopt advanced technology, provide customized loss prevention and mitigation services which match customer’s business development and operating environments, and support customers to improve the resilience of loss prevention.
Fourth, industrial upgrading. This aims to putting forward insurance coverage for the digital and intelligent development of manufacturing industry.
At present, the products and services provided for "industrial upgrading" including cyber risk combined with LoT, equipment failure early warning insurance and service solutions. At the CIIE booth, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. will use data and technology to extend the service of loss prevention and mitigation in order to provide clients with safe measures before and after.
Focusing on "GX" and "Healthcare" to achieve "carbon neutrality" and "healthy management"
According to the report of 20th CPC National Congress, we should accelerate the green transformation of the development mode, implement the comprehensive conservation strategy, develop green and low-carbon industries, advocate green consumption, and promote the formation of green and low-carbon production modes and lifestyles. Accordingly, in this year's CIIE, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. will take the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” as the highlight to show its products, services, and measures to support the carbon neutral strategy.
According to Keiko Fujita, regarding “GX”, they will display a more distinctive "loss prevention and mitigation" service, which is the survey service for solar photovoltaic panels. In 2021, with the request of customers, this service was first introduced to China, which has been already successfully applied to the client’s operations in Europe, the United States and other Asian countries.“By carrying out a survey of the solar panels installed by companies through drones with professional equipment, we can identify risk sufficiently and promptly to avoid major losses from customers and solve companies green transformation problems,” she said.
Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. also carries out social contribution activities related to the protection of Earth's environment and biodiversity. The typical example is the mangrove plantation program.“Since 1999, with the theme of ‘Insurance for the future of the Earth’, the company has been planting mangrove forests in 9 countries including Asia and other places. Over past 20 years, the total planting area reached 119 square kilometers. Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. has achieved carbon neutrality for 9 consecutive years,” said Keiko Fujita.
In terms of healthcare, the employee’s physical and mental health has been managed through a series of business measures including ensuring the workplace which full of vitality. Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. has become one of the five companies honored as “healthy management brand” by the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Japan for seven consecutive years.
This year, they also establish the Health Promotion Industry Alliance in China, which is their cross-industry cooperation with Panasonic and Omron to jointly build a new healthcare and insurance service ecosystem. They committed to give full efforts to meet the increasing of high-quality health needs under the national strategy of "Healthy China 2030".
Having full confidence in the Chinese insurance market and work with Chinese and foreign enterprises to deepen China's market
"In last year's CIIE, we cooperated with relevant technology companies and launched ' digital intelligent insurance products' that help the development of digital intelligent industry, which belongs to the insurance innovation in the field of domestic intelligent manufacturing. After the exhibition, more customers came to consult with us and negotiate related projects. We deeply feel that CIIE is an efficient platform to expand the corporate influence," said Keiko Fujita when asked about the achievements of last year's CIIE.
Due to the good results of last year's CIIE, Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. participates in this year's CIIE with many expectations. Keiko Fujita expressed her confidence in the Chinese market, she says,‘Insurance is still the very promising industry in China according to insurance depth and density, which is the two important indicators measuring the maturity of the insurance industry. So we have strong confidence in Chinese insurance market and full of expectations for its future."
She expressed her hope to increase the exposure and the branding of the company through CIIE, so that more Chinese enterprises and consumers can get to know us.“We can work together with more local and foreign enterprises in future to actively explore GX, the Healthy China Initiative, loss prevention and mitigation, and industrial upgrading to create a better future,” said Keiko Fujita.
