KHARTOUM, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday arrived in Khartoum for official visit to Sudan.

"At the invitation of President Omar al-Bashir, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit just arrived in Khartoum," Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, Sudan's foreign minister, told reporters at the airport.

Al-Bashir and Mayardit are expected to hold talks on bilateral relations at the presidential palace later on the day, he noted.

He further said that "the visit tends to celebrate today the South Sudan's Revitalized Peace Agreement and honor President Salva Kiir and the opposition leader Riek Machar, whereas they have offered sacrifices that made the realization of peace in southern Sudan possible."

The Sudanese minister further noted that, during the visit, there would be a meeting between President Mayardit and opposition leader Machar in addition to meetings with other South Sudanese parties.

On Sept. 13, South Sudan's conflicting parties signed the final peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in presence of heads of state and government of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development in Africa (IGAD).

The deal was reached through talks brokered in Khartoum by Sudan government with a mandate by the IGAD.

The final deal includes Khartoum peace agreement on South Sudan, which was signed last June 27, and the agreement on power-sharing and security arrangements, which was signed last August 5.
