LONDON, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May and the Opposition Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn are set to hold more talks over Brexit amid speculation that the government would soften its stance on Customs Union.

May struck a conciliatory tone in her response to a letter from Corbyn, which set out his five demands for a Brexit deal.

In the letter published by the local media Monday, May said she wanted the two parties to discuss "alternative arrangements" to the Irish backstop, a commitment to avoid a hard border.

Labor has not responded to May's letter.

There remains a divide over the customs union, even though May did not reject any of his conditions outright in the letter.

Local analysts said May's language is more nuanced, even though privately her aides insist there can be no question of accepting a permanent customs union.

In his earlier letter, Corbyn urged a "permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union" with the European Union (EU) to be introduced to the deal, with the same external tariff.

He said it would give Britain a say on any future trade deals that the EU may strike.

No date has been set for the next meeting, but May said in the letter that she looked forward to the two parties meeting as soon as possible.
