NEW DELHI, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa here on Saturday, foreign ministry officials said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa held comprehensive and intensive talks reviewing the wide canvas of relations. Our shared key priorities of security, connectivity and welfare of both our people topped the agenda," Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a brief note on social media said.

Rajapaksa arrived in New Delhi on Friday on a four-day visit.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation which includes ministers, lawmakers and top officials of Sri Lanka.

This is the first visit of Rajapaksa abroad after he took over as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in November last year.

Indian officials said there has been a series of high-level visits between the two countries. Last year Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa chose India as the first destination to visit after he assumed office following his victory in elections.
