MOSCOW, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Attempts to hold other countries responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic and demand compensation worth trillions will lead to a dead end, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, has said.

"Probably, the most important thing is not just looking for answers but coordinating universal efforts to overcome this most widespread and truly global crisis, which has no analogues in the recent history," Medvedev said in an article published Wednesday on the journal Russia in Global Affairs.

"The risks the pandemic has created are extremely high. That is why global security cooperation is needed in the broadest sense," said the article.

According to Medvedev, Russia's former prime minister, the investigation into the causes of the pandemic is merely an attempt by some to score political points during election season.

Countries are trying to shift their responsibility for their failure to curb the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

Medvedev said it is much more constructive to create a full-fledged platform for the cooperation of doctors, scientists, laboratories and firms to develop effective vaccines and antiviral drugs.
