RAMALLAH, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Palestine is holding intensive contacts to form a draft resolution for voting in the United Nations against the Israeli annexation plan, state radio reported on Thursday, quoting Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.

A draft resolution "is under discussion to decide on the punitive measures that should be imposed on Israel once it implements its plan," al-Maliki told the Voice of Palestine.

Currently, Palestine is working together with the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to push for holding a special session for the UN General Assembly to discuss the Israeli annexation, according to al-Maliki.

However, he said that holding a session for the UN General Assembly "is still influenced by the coronavirus pandemic," adding that Palestine pressures on the UN to overcome technical issues and hold the session.

Meanwhile, al-Maliki expressed his satisfaction over the results of the video conference of the UN Security Council, which was held on Wednesday, to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories and the Israeli plan.

"The conference's discussions showed a semi-international consensus that rejects the Israeli annexation plan and considered it a violation of the international law and that it would shut the door for the two-state solution," he said.

Al-Maliki also said that the Palestinian leadership "discusses with world countries, especially the influential ones, putting a practical mechanism on imposing sanctions on Israel in case it implements its annexation plan."

Israeli officials had said it could begin the annexation process from July 1. The plans are to annex Jewish settlements in the West Bank as well as the Jordan Valley.
