India's COVID-19 tally reaches 8,683,916, Indonesia logs 4,173 new cases

HONG KONG, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- COVID-19 spread in some Asia-Pacific countries is continuing, as India's tally reached 8,683,916 on Thursday.

Despite the fear for spread, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said however there would not be any lockdowns to be imposed.

"In my status as the head of the government, I would like to confirm that there will be no any lockdowns of the country, the capital, or any provinces or areas," he said in a post on his official Facebook page.

Cambodia closed gyms across the kingdom in the latest move to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,683,916 on Thursday as 47,905 new cases were registered across the country in the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

Sri Lanka's President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called to halt all movement out of the country's Western Province which includes capital Colombo as the number of COVID-19 patients in the province saw a rise in recent weeks, local media reported.

New Zealand reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, including one imported and two community cases.

South Korea reported 143 more cases of the COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 27,942. The daily caseload hovered above 100 for the fifth consecutive day due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases. Enditem
