TEHRAN, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Khuzestan Bidboland Gas Refinery, one of the largest projects in the region, was opened by Iran's president via a video conference on Thursday.

"Bidboland refinery is a very important project," President Hassan Rouhani was quoted as saying by official IRNA news agency.

"Since the beginning of the (Iranian) year (in March 2020), 11 important petrochemical projects have been launched and we hope that six more projects will be be opened," Rouhani said.

"For the first time in the history of Iran, we are producing one billion cubic meters of gas," he said, adding that the world needs Iran's oil and gas.

Meanwhile, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Iranian Petroleum Minister, said at the opening ceremony that the operation of the Bidboland project is a sign of the "failure of U.S. sanctions and the maximum pressure campaign against the Iranian people."

Earlier, Managing Director of the Bidboland Gas Refinery Company Mahmoud Aminnejad said that "more than 3.4 billion U.S. dollars have been invested in the construction of the large refinery. It is able to collect all the gases associated with oil extraction and turn them into useful gas."

Aminnejad said that its capacity of gas production, including the gases of methane, ethane, butane and propane, is 2 billion cubic feet per day.

"For the construction of the plant, more than 1,000 km of feed and transmission pipelines have been built," he noted.

With the inauguration of the project, more than 1,100 people will be employed at the refinery, Aminnejad added. Enditem
