People wait at Amsterdam’s central station yesterday, after an
electricity outage in much of the Netherlands city and surrounding areas
hit trains, trams and metros. The giant power outage early yesterday
left 360,000 households in sub-zero temperatures overnight. The power
cut meant no trains to or from Amsterdam’s busy main rail station,
resulting in a rush of drivers on to the road and heavy traffic. The
power has since been restored but the electricity provider warned
“problems may still occur due to the start-up process.” It did not give a
reason for the blackout.
