A report on world tourism trends issued by the World Tourism Cities Federation on March 1 said that, in 2021, global tourists will be 9.5 billion; a year-on-year growth of 31.1%. Revenue is also predicted to recover to USD 4.50 trillion, an increase of 53.9% year-on-year. Domestic tourism in each country will contribute most of that.
Tourism in 2020 has been overwhelmed by the pandemic restrictions, with the proportion of tourism revenue as a percentage of global GDP decreasing to 3.6%, the lowest level since World War II.
It is the fifth time that the federation has issued an annual trend report. Other reports have made a panoramic analysis of issues such as regional development pattern changes, prominent characteristics of key countries, development trends of key industries, and tourism city recovery strategies.
