2010 Expo lives on in new park
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-04-20 02:29

FOUR pavilions used at the 2010 World Expo will be preserved and sited inside a 2-square-kilometer park to be created along the Huangpu River.

The city’s greenery authorities said yesterday the aim was to maintain the cultural legacy of the Expo.

The France, Russia, Italy and Luxembourg pavilions will be kept inside the Expo Culture Park. The park’s construction will start in the third or fourth quarter this year.

Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau launched a survey and invited residents to submit design proposals of the park. It has so far collected nearly 5,000 survey feedbacks and about 230 proposals.

About 60 percent of respondents suggested making full use of the Expo pavilions.

More than half of people surveyed said the park could set up an Expo forest and host art, culture, music, and gardening activities — and 72 percent of respondents said they were willing to serve as volunteers at the park.

The park is planned to offer free admission, and to incorporate cultural facilities including a grand opera house. An indoor greenhouse garden is also planned.

Expats are also encouraged to forward their ideas. They can do so by e-mailing sbgyzj@lhsr.sh.gov.cn. before May 31.
