THE landmark sightseeing cruise trip on Huangpu River is be extended to 21 kilometers — from Fuxing Island in Yangpu District to Xupu Bridge — this year.
The current water tour itineraries on the river are 9 kilometers long and run between Yangpu and Lupu bridges. The new route will be stretched at both directions.
“We are considering make the route a loop line, and tourists will be able to get off the ship at several spots along the trip,” said Yang Jinsong, director of the Shanghai Tourism Administration, who announced the proposed extension.
Water and land tourism will be combined enabling tourists to have time to explore scenic spots on land.
Yang said the extension of the cruise route coincided with the construction of the city’s 45 kilometers of uninterrupted pedestrian paths along Huangpu River, which would be finished this year.
The administration would also launch an app of the Huangpu River sightseeing cruise trip this year, said Yang. The sightseeing trip was one the most charming draws of Shanghai, he added.
