World Bank to continue supporting Vietnam's development: WB official
From:Xinhua  |  2017-03-23 17:40

HANOI, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank will continue cooperating with and supporting Vietnam during its development in the coming time, World Bank (WB)'s CEO Kristalina Georgieva said on Thursday.

Vietnam's achievements recorded so far are results of sound policies and it still has much room for economic development, she said when meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, adding that the strong partnership between Vietnam and the WB will be maintained in the future.

She also underlined willingness to work with the Vietnamese government to pinpoint the growth momentum for Vietnam's economy and assist it in countering economic and natural disaster shocks, local state-run news agency VNA reported on Thursday.

The WB official also asked Vietnam's government to ensure resources allocated for projects using WB loans, noting that she will assign the WB country director for Vietnam to closely work with local agencies to address any emerging issues.

Vietnam hopes that aside from the International Development Association's support, the WB will increase assistance from other organizations of the WB Group to help Vietnam achieve its development targets and encounter impacts of climate change, said Vietnamese PM Phuc.

Phuc affirmed that Vietnam pledges to use foreign loans, including those provided by the WB, in an effective way.
