Coal mine accident kills 17 in NE China
From:Xinhua  |  2017-03-13 22:40

HARBIN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Rescue workers have found the bodies of 17 coal miners trapped underground after an accident in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on March 9, local authorities said Monday.

The miners were in a cage which fell when its electric cable burned through at Dongrong Second Mine of the Shuangyashan branch of Longmay Mining Holding Group on Thursday afternoon.

Over 200 miners escaped, but 17 were trapped. Their bodies were recovered Monday and brought to the surface.

Two welders have been detained by police over allegedly serious violation of safety regulations. The mine manager has been suspended from his post, the local government said.
