BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Related parties in the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue should take responsibility and make a breakthrough to resume peace talks at an early date, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tuesday.

Geng Shuang said at a daily press briefing that China has always believed that peaceful negotiation and consultation remain the only practical and feasible approach to realizing denuclearization, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Media reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has opened the door to a future meeting with Kim Jong Un, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Commenting on the matter, Geng said the United States and the DPRK, as parties directly concerned in the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, should make political decisions, take action as soon as possible and make efforts to ease tensions on the peninsula, resume peace talks, and realize denuclearization.
